چکیده

Introduction In several experimental animal systems, lack of vitamin A is associated with enhanced susceptibility to chemical carcinogenesis [1-3] and there are reports also of alterations in the activity of certain microsomal oxidation-reduction enzymes [4-:-6]. It seemed possible that both effects are related to loss of vitamin A protection against free radical-induced membrane-lipid peroxidation. We have accordingly undertaken parallel studies of peroxidation and various microsomal metabolic activities in both vitamin A-deficient and vitamin A-loaded rats, in comparison with normal controls.

Anti-oxidant effects of propofol (2, 6-diisopropylphenol) were evaluated agains carbon tetrachloridet CCl4 -induced oxidative stress in rat liver. 30 male rats were equally divided in to 6 groups (5 rats each). Group I (control), while Group II was given CCl4 (3 mL /Kg/day, IP). Animals of Groups III received only propofol (10 mg/Kg/day, IP). Group IV was given propofol+ CCl4. Group V was admin...

Vitamin E protects rat testis, eye and erythrocyte from oxidative stress during exposure to radiofrequency wave generated by a BTS antenna model

Background: Radio frequency wave (RFW) generated by mobile phones and wireless communication systems has been reported to cause adverse effects on reproductive function, vision and hematological parameters, possibly through oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of RFW generated bybase transceiver station BTS on oxidative stress in testis, eye and erythrocyte, and th...

Effects of dietary vitamin E on microsomal lipid peroxidation and glutathione peroxidase in rat liver.

peroxides in subcellular fractions under vitamin E-deficient conditions. This discrepancy may be partially explained by the difference of the levels of various microsomal enzymes which are modified with a vitamin E-deficient diet. As for influencing factors on lipid peroxidation, it is known that superoxide dismutase inhibits the NADPH-cyt. c reductase catalyzing lipid peroxidation (3) and that...

Combined exposure to m-xylene and ethanol: oxidative stress in the rat liver.

OBJECTIVES Ethanol may be a significant combined factor in human solvent toxicity. Lipid peroxidation has been suggested to be an important contributing mechanism involved in experimental alcohol-induced liver injury. The aim of the study was to investigate whether a short-term ethanol ingestion in rats chronically exposed to m-xylene vapor may influence the lipid peroxidation rate in the intra...
